Have you really experienced authentic Balinese heritage and culture? If not, you can certainly have that wonderful experience at iconic Nusa Dua in Bali.

Situated approximately 22 kilometres from Denpasar, the capital of Bali, Nusa Dua is a region of large international 5-star resorts administered under Kuta South District. The words “Nusa Dua” actually mean “two islands” because of the two islands in the bay of the Bali Tourism Development Corporation area where the island of Peninsula is on the southern side and the smaller island of Nusa Dharma is on the northern side.

North of Nusa Dua is the peninsula called Tanjung Benoa, which consists of less elite hotels and the Benoa village where there are Chinese and Hindu temples and a mosque. The Benoa Port had small ships and yachts until 2012 until the Benoa Cruise International Terminal took over and converted it into a turnaround port to cater for embarkation and debarkation of cruise passengers.

If you have ever wanted something a little different in your ‘escapes’ then why not this Asian paradise of Nusa Dua that remains partially untouched and is less chaotic than the nearby tourist hub of Kuta. All you have to do is venture over to the other side of the Bali peninsula, and you have arrived at a spot that sets it apart from Bali’s more popular destinations.

The perimeter of Nusa Dua is defined by a man-made wall that houses all of the hotels, so if you are one of those travellers who place safety high on your list, this is the perfect place. Even though there are numerous security check points that may appear intrusive, you will soon realise the extra safety measures serve to create that unique sense of calm, while the guards always greet you with a smile.

Are you suffering from a little jetlag? No worries, as you can overcome that easily by hiring a hotel bike and cruise along the oceanfront boardwalk and take in the sights and sounds of this serene reserve. Then, only a few hundred metres from the hotels, you can venture out to the tip of the peninsula and check out the blowhole near the old cabana at the end of the road; if the swell is up, it will be incredible to watch the water explode out of the cavern, only five metres from your feet.

During the evening, while you can mingle your way around the hotels along the peninsula, you will experience a different style on Balinese, Asian and Western cuisine in you encounters while allowing your tastebuds to find their delights.

Remember, do not ruin a relaxing holiday by forcing too much into your itinerary. If you are staying only a few days, you need only chill-out at your beachfront suite and take in the sunsets as a cue for a late afternoon stroll. If you are staying for over a week, or perhaps you would simply like to get outdoors and do some adrenalin-pumping activities, then rest assured that Nusa Dua has a lot more to offer than reclining beach chairs.

There are chartered deep-sea fishing expeditions available that will give you a wonderful half day or full day out on the water, and if you prefer extra heart-pumping action, a jet-ski experience is the perfect way to charge your batteries. Always barter with the locals though, until you can agree on a mutual price, and do not forget to check your travel insurance. Some may not cover for some of the more extreme activities on offer.

Your travel in Bali would not be complete without the shopping available in the area. You will be astounded by the providers along the beachfront endeavouring to sell you sarongs and wristbands. Even though Nusa Dua is a relatively small purpose-built resort, it has a wealth of intriguing attractions right on its doorstep.

What can we say about Nusa Dua but pure luxury and escapism, with a hotbed of luxurious accommodations, golf resorts, fine dining and R & R.? Yes, all this and a lot, lot more to experience in Nusa Dua.

Are you into surfing or diving? If so, you need to know these are the popular activities for more active visitors to this beach destination. Or you can take a hike up the many steps to Mother Temple Besakih and combine sight-seeing with muscle toning! There is an array of spas, galleries and boutiques awaiting those who prefer less exertion. Local Barong performances can be admired also at Batubulan.

Now we have the only authentic Balinese fine dining restaurant on the island that shares its secrets! Exclusively designed to introduce the traditional Balinese cuisine, the course covers hands-on cooking, recipe folder, certificate and lunch.

Perhaps you are in Nusa Dua with children? No problem – the Nusa Dua Beach Hotel & Spa ensures your kids have as much fun as you do. The Gecko Kid’s Club is specially designed for your young ones, while kids under 3 years old should be accompanied by an adult. The Hotel provides supervised games and other fun-filled activities such as cultural Balinese dance, temple visits and fun activities such as sand castle, face painting, weaving and feeding fish. All staff is fully qualified.

It’s a very well established fact that the benefits of a healthy lifestyle are something everyone should enjoy. Therefore, whether it is weight-loss, sports-specific or just keeping fit, there is a health club waiting for you at Nusa Dua. Facilities comprise sauna, steam room, whirlpool and cold plunge with spacious changing amenities including complimentary toiletries and towels. Private lap pools and private floodlit tennis and squash courts with a players’ lounge is also ready to be enjoyed.

Would you prefer a stroll through a museum? The Museum Pasifika was established as a permanent institution to showcase these styles and forms for all humanity to study and enjoy. With over 600 works on a lasting exhibition, the gallery is a significant accompaniment to the many public museums in Bali and the region. Each of the buildings is characterized to include Indonesian, Indo-European, Italian, Dutch, Indochina, Asian, Polynesian, Pacific, and Tapa, with charming and discerning articles by some of the world’s leading art experts. This museum is a tribute to the artistic and cultural heritage of the region and is a required resource for all interested in the fascinating and complex region we know as Asia.

The Devdan Show, affectionately known as the “Treasure of the Archipelago” is a spectacular modern and contemporary dance and acrobatic performance inspired by the culture of Indonesia. The show takes about 90 minutes and will transport you on an incredible journey, beginning in Bali and going on to Java, Sumatra, Borneo and Papua. This stunning attraction is performed on a purpose-built stage that is full of special effects with world-class sound and lighting, aerial acrobatics, fire effects, different types of fog and smoke and it even rains inside the theatre at one point.
